Maître Parfumeur et Gantier - Tubéreuse

The tuberose interpretation of Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Tubéreuse starts with topnotes that reminds me of powdery lipstick. The tuby-note are evident even if embedded in lipstick. As the top notes fades and the perfume reach it's heart, a more polished version of the typical dirty "stable-like" jasmine note of MPG matsterly interpreted in the MPG soliflore Jasmine, appears accompaning the tuberose. There are a lot of similarities between Jasmine and Tubéreuse but the latter is more well modulated and polished even if some skankiness lurking behind it's elegant exterior. The former is straight forward, it smells as it has just left the stable. In both Tubereuse and Jasmine the top-and mid-range are infused with green notes that accentuates that respective flower. The green notes are slightly harsh, galbanum comes in mind but without the typical crispiness of that stuff. Just as Jasmine, Tubéreuse is grounded in the special MPG musc that contribute to the retro-like impression of their fragrances.

To summon all up, MPG Tubéreuse is a green floral scent accented by tuberose although there is a hefty dose of jasmine too. The scent is not an equally distinct and compact tuberose frag such as Annick Goutals Tubéreuse or Frederic Malle Carnal Flower. As Tubereuse is not very powerful and it is almost percived as thin in the projection. But it fills its place as a retro scent with a clearly nostalgic vibe. Tubéreuse is an EDT that fits well  wearing during daytime especially for spring and summer.

Maison Nicolas de Barry - Casanova

Casanova is a sparkling Edt from french nichehouse Maison Nicolas de Barry. The fragrance is composed by the founder of the house himself, Nicolas de Barry.

Casanova starts green, enlighted by citirc notes. There is also a light herbal, almost non-sweet minty touch in the topnotes. Soon a very beautiful, full, not diluted, jasmine appears. It's a jasmine somewhere between the jasmine in Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Jasmine (swe) but without the dirty, horsey nuances and the flowery clean jasmine of for example By Kilian Love and Tears (swe). Some of the greenery of the jasmin seems also to be destilated in Casanova and the jasminenote is seconded by a smooth orangenote which adds a hint of fruit to the composition. The basenotes are light woody and warm with a light amberglow.

Casanova is for jasmine what Eau de Cardinal (reviewed last week) is for orangeblossom, a natural smelling, without any harsh chemical notes and no artificial smelling sweetness. Not anything new, but an easy to wear fragrance. The connection to Casanova is ambiguous, the perfume is nice smelling and in that part seducitive but when it comes to the character Casanova, I think the dirty MPG Jasmine would be a better choice.

The longevity on skin is about the same, about a day, as for Eau de Cardinal even if the latter is classified as a cologne, but on the other hand I applicated more of Eau Cardinal when I tested it so maybe the longevity is better for Casanova. Casanova is very jobfriendly, couldn't offend anyone with its optimistic spirit and has close silage. A fragrance especially for spring and summer but suits also during the winter when longing for the warm season.

Rania J - Jasmin Kâma

Jasmin Kâma is the jasmine interpretation in the Rania J natural perfumeline. As with all Rania J:s the smell, in this case of jasmine, also is very natural an unartificial. Jasmin Kâma is named after Kâmadeva, the indian god of Kâma; love, wish and desire.

Jasmin Kâma starts with a plush frutiy jasminenote in full bloom. The fruity jasmine reminds me a bit of the great opening of Montale Jasmin Full. Soon the animalic aspect shines trough but never takes over the fragrance and turns it "full skanky". This part makes me think of the skanky jasmineperfumes from Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Jasmine and La Reine Margot (from the subline Les Parfumes Historiques) but in Jasmin Kâma the animalic part is milder. The interplay between the beautiful fruity side of the jasmine and its animalic counterpart is what makes this fragrance interesting, even if quite linear in structure. In the basenotes, Jasmin Kâma is a bit darker and the a soft combination of musk and patchoul deepens the jasmine and creates a velvet like texture.

Jasmin Kâma is a straight forward, casual jasmine that is perfect for spring and summer. I think it will perfect fit a white casual outfit in cotton or linen. The sillage is close and the longevity almost for a day. Even if casual in style, Jasmin Kâma is perfect for officewear, it's notable but not at all overpowering.

Even if not an original jasmine fragrance, there are plenty in the same style, Jasmin Kâma should definitly be tried by those who are searching for a jasmine soliflore.

XerJoff - Oud Stars Al-Khatt

Al-Khatt, from the oud line of the mega luxary house XerJoff, starts with a pleasant barnyard oud followed by a refreshing, high quality, slight creamy boquet of flowers. Unfortunately the animlic oud disapperas soon and the beautiful flowery blends remains and develops as Al-Katt is drying down. Or maybe the oudnote doesn't disappears, the laotian oud is known to be gentle and flowery in it's character, an excelllent example is Mona di Orio Oud, maybe the out in Al-Khatt just going through it's normal evulation. Beside the disappering animalic oud note there is also another annoying thing with Al-Khatt: The beautiful, bergamot-jasmine dominated flowery blend is very similar to Amouages Ubar, but Al-Khatt has a cashmeran, smoot, creamy texture. As Ubar is one of my favourite Amouages this mimicry irritates me but apart from that the perfumers Sergio Momo, Sonia Espelta and Laura Santander did a good job. Al-Khatt, just as Ubar, conveys the feeling of a sunny and pleasantly warm summerday. As a XerJoff, Al-Khatt is a high quality fragrance where the best ingredients are used. The elegant flowery blend is seemless with an excellent longevity and moderate projektion, can't disturb anybody if not overapplied. The blend is concentrated and a little goes for a whole day. My 1 ml sample will thankfully last for long.

To summon up: Al-Khatt is not as oriental in style as one can expect from an oud perfume. But on the other hand, Al-Khatt as it's older sister Ubar is a pleasure to wear, it's the sort of high quality flowery fragance that makes the wearer unwilling to wear even a decent mainstream fragrance again. I'm in love!

Mona di Orio - Oiro

Mona di Orios Oiro (guld) är en gyllene och varm avancerad jasmindoft i retrostil. Doften är inte lika pudrig som flera andra från MdO, trots innehåll av heliotrophe, utan en  klar välblandad, vitblommig doft med gröna och animaliska noter. Jasminen är lätt fruktigt gyllene och de av mig uppskattade lortiga noterna som finns i jasmin framträder till en del och skapar ett lite dekadant men samtidgt elegant uttryck. Det är inte en rå "in your face" stallaktig lortighet som i MPG:s Jasmine utan en mjukare och mer modulerad variant. I basnoterna finns en silverputsliknande not som påminner om den i Annick Goutals Vétiver. En annan not som är genomgående i Oirio, på mig i allafall, är doften av mandel, antagligen en aspekt av heliotrophen.

Oiro är sammanfattningsvis en högkvalitativ, nostalgisk doft. Jag ser bilden av en lätt bedagad, ganska  besviken skönhet under ett höstbesök på Rivieran. Hennes förmögne man har bytt till en nyare årgång och lämnat den gamla i klart mindre omständigheter än vad hon varit van vid under de senaste decenierna.

Nasomatto - Nuda

Excentriska, holländska parfymhuset Nasomattos Nuda är rakt igenom jasmin och lyfter fram många olika facetter av denna doftgigant. Jag anar att doften är grundad i varmt sandelträ och mysk, men i övrigt är det en ren jasmin baserad på en naturlig jasminolja. Nuda lyfter fram både jasminens rena och vita sida, den fruktiga och något av den animaliskt, lädrigt lite lortiga, även om den i det senare fallet inte går alls så långt som  Maître Parfumer et Gantiers Jasmine se min review på Parfumistans dagbok för ett år sedan http://blogg.expressen.se/parfumistansdagbok/entry.jsp?messid=606000

På mig startar Nuda i en fruktig jasminnot som dofter lite som färsk, inte helt mogen, banan. I denna fas känns Nuda vida omkring men det varar bara en stund. Sedan blir den torrare och vitare för att därefter anta en viss läderton och lite lortighet. När den stabiliserat sig så pendlar den mellan dessa stadier ibland med den tillkommande banannoten. Totalt sett är intrycket av Nuda rund och creme-igt vitblommig. Nuda är behaglig och finns där som en skin-scent dvs den har ingen större projektion. Men så är den också en parfym som dessutom är gjord på naturligt jasminextrakt och parfymer och naturliga råvaror smälter i regel in mer i huden och finns där exklusivt för bäraren själv. Efter den kraftfulla starten så blir jag också lite besviken på att Nuda sedan blir så pass stillsam, doften är så fin så jag vill att den ska ha en större aura. Men jag misstänker att det är en egenhet med jasmindofter med stort inslag av naturliga ingredienser: Kraftfulla i starten men sedan får jag trycka näsan mot handleden för att känna dem ordentligt. Precis samma händer med Montales Jasmin Full som är liknade i stilen även om den har ett större inslag av annat = apelsinblomma.

Sammanfattingsvis en mycket fin och elegant doft som passar en brud på hennes bröllopsdag. Nackdelen är den begränsade projektionen, åtminstone på min hud. Men med en hyfsat kraftig finns ändå tydliga fragment kvar av Nuda efter ett dygn.

Nasomatto - Nuda (english version)

The excentric Dutch perfumhouse Nasomattos Nuda is a straight through jasmine fragrance. I highlights the many different facets of this fragrant giant. I suspect that the scent is anchored in warm sandalwood and musknotes, but otherwise it is a pure jasmine based on the natural jasmine oil. Nuda highlights both pure and clean white jasmine, it's fruity aspects and some of the dirty, animalic and leathery notes. Although in the latter case it does not go nearly as far as Maître Parfums et Gantiers Jasmine which is a real dirty "horse and stable" fragrance which I love.

On my skin Nuda starts with a fruity note of jasmine that smells a bit like fresh, not quite ripe bananas. In this phase Nuda projekts widely but it only lasts for a moment. Then it becomes drier and brighter and then take on a particular note of leather and some dirt. When Nuda is stabilized it commute between these stages, sometimes with the additional green banana note. Overall, the impression of Nuda is round and creamy white flowers. Nuda is very comfortable and it's a skin-scent with low projection. But it is also a perfume that is  made ​​with a high precentag of natural extracts and jasmine oils.Natural ingredients generally wears more close to the skin and is there exclusively for the wearer herself. After the impressive start, I get a little disappointed that Nuda then become almost quiet. The scent is so good that I want it to have a larger aura. But I suspect it is a peculiarity of the jasmine fragrance with a large element of natural ingredienses: Powerful in the beginning but then I have to press my nose against my wrist to know them properly. Exactly the same happens with Montale  a fragrance which is similar in style although it has a larger element of another flower = orange blossom.
Nuda is a elegant fragrance fit for a bride on her wedding day. The disadvantage is the limited projection, at least on my skin. But with a fairly strong application, there will still remain distinct fragments of Nuda after a whole day.

MPG - Jasmine

Insjuknad i Daniel-febern har jag haft svårt att koncentrera mig på att skriva om doft.
Idag har jag i alla fall en mycket trevlig doft, ur ett parfymnörds perspektiv i allafall. Herr Parfumistas kommentar i morse: Du luktar stallkläder och häst. Som så ofta (han har onekligen en bra näsa ska erkännas) hade han rätt. Jag bar Mäitre Parfumer et Gantiers fina Jasmine, en dunkel, lortig, animalisk jasmindoft. Naturlig Jasminolja luktar nämligen häst och stall så många har svårt för doften. Men inbitna parfumistor brukar gilla det hela, ungefär som inbitna vinprovare gillar gamla viner med stallnoter. Minns när vi fick prova ett trettioårigt rödvin på Rabiega i Provance. Det var på den tiden V&S fortfarande hade kvar vingården. Det som slog emot oss var en intensiv doft av stall och häst. I samma stil är Jasmine men sötare och blommigare. Underbar på sitt sätt. En doft som jag inte borde ha dragits till idag, årets ljusaste natt. För den är ju inte direkt är något midsommarblomster precis!
