Top 5 Winterfrgrances 2018

It seems as the major perfumeblogs have posted the Top10 Winterfragrances 2018 lists. Here five fumes I enjoy during the colder months:

Volutes (Diptyque): Calming, comforting, warm aromatic with resins, spices, honey and tobacco. Close silage and de-stressing, a fragrance that could be worn even when feeling ill. My most worn frag this winter.

Tubéreuse (Maître Parfumeur et Gantier): A very green and dry tubereuse with grassy almost herbal nuances and a glimpse of a dill note in the first accords. A fragrance for sunny winterdays.

Magnolia Pourpre (Maître Parfumeur et Gantier): More of a soft powdery cold orchid than magnolia. Both seemless mixed with iris and rose. An excellent, elegant and retro fragrance.

Shalimar Edp (Guerlain): Current formula. What could be better a cold day than to wrap in the warm veil of vanilla, bergamot, iris, powder, leather and all the other wonderful notes of Shalimar.

Amber Mystique (Esteé Lauder): A balsamic rose with incense, light glimpses of oud, spices and berrys. Like a dark bourdeaux velvet cloak warming a cold winter evening.

Finally, winter has arrived with some snow and pleasing tempratures, some degrees below 0 C and this weekend the sun also was shining. Perfect for a walk aroumd the small lake nearby. Even if sunny and I took the walk in the middle of the day, some mysterious haze was hanging over the fields and the lake.

These conditions are the very best for wearing perfume imo, the grand orientals and voluminous  flowers comes to their right when contrasted with the cold. During the walk I come to think of some of my choices during last week, for example Guerlain Shalimar Edp and L'Artisan L'Eau d'Ambre Extreme both warm and comforting orientals suitable for the winter.

The mystic haze reminded me of elves and of Carner Barcelona Rima XI which is a perfume that I associate with elves.

When walkning on the sunny side of the lake, with the sun glittering over the snow, I instantly come to think of the powdery, soapy icon Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige which is also a fragrance that demands lower tempratures to come to its right. And a big white flower as for example  Estee Lauder Private Collection Tubereuse Gardenia would be great in the sun.

Finally, the ice skaters made me think of drinking hot chocolate when taking a break and of Mancera Roses & Chocolate. One know that one is a fragrance nerd when so many fragrance associations pops up during a regular walk

Montale – Gold Flowers

Montale Gold Flowers is one in the indefinite ranges of perfumes from the house of  Montale, created by the hyperproductive perfumer Pierre Montale some years ago. Gold Flowers belongs to the Edp line, which is the non-oud line of the house. Of course there are oudnotes in many of the blends in the Edp-line but the note is used as a woody note among others and not as the leading note of the creation as in the Oud-line.

In Gold Flowers I can’t detect any oud, Gold Flowers is a genuine, tuberose dominated spicy, bold flowery fragrance. Gold Flowers reminds me of at least three fragrances: Spellbound with it’s flowery spiciness, Fracas tuberose and the texture of the flowery, fruity chypre Jil Sander 4. But Gold Flowers is lighter, brighter and more contemporary than those three fragrances. As the fragrances of the early 90s has been one of the major trends in perfumery for some years, for example Burberry Body, Gold Flowers is quite in tune with time.

The sillage and longevity is great as almost always with the Montales. The composition is also well balanced. Gold Flowers is perfect for warming up a grey day in autumn- or winter but is also appropriate to summer as it last very well and has a certain transparency. With it’s character it is also suitable for evening wear. To summarize: Gold Flowers is not the most original composition but cozy and wearable spicy, tuby fragrance.

Jehanne Rigaud - Ambre Obscure

Ambre Obscure is a fragrance from the relatively unknown and a bit under cover perfume house Jehanne Rigaud from Grasse. As I understand it, the house had a range of fine fragrances during the 1920s-1930s and the following decades but then focused on to produce essences, ambiences, basic colognes and eaux as also producing for other perfumehouses. In one website I can recognize bottles with the same shape and labels as some editions from the house of Les Nereides. As mentioned in the earlier post about Imperial Poudré, I smell similarities in style between Les Nereides and Jehanne Rigaud. maybe this is not a coincidence. Jehanne Rigaud, just as Les Nereides, issues really priceworthy perfumes, compared both to mainstream and niche releases. The whole Jehanne Rigaud line is avaible here at top notch niche shop Fragrance & Art.

Ambre Obscur starts and proceeds very familiar to me: I can smell an old favorite, the early 1980s oriental Prelude from Balenciaga. It's almost the same vintage smelling amber, deep and multifacetted containing notes  similar to old sherry oakbarrels.It's like looking in a caledeoscope with changing patterns in brown and ruby red nuances. As Ambre Obscur dries further down, a fine jasmine blends delicately with the dark, deep amber and balsamic notes from the basenotes. Patchouli is also present as a supporting note, well balanced and it doesn't take over the composition, the patchouli just enhances the vintage feeling. Ambre Obscur is slight powdery in texture but not at all as powdery as the powder bomb from Jehanne Rigaud Imperial Poudré. In its later stage, Amber Obscur reminds me of the discontinued gem from Estée Lauder Youth Dew Amber Nude and there is also similarities with Aramis JHL at least the vintage version I have on hand.

To me who is a bit tired of all the light and airy contemporary ambers released in later years, Ambre Obscur is a very pleasant surprise, dark, deep and vintage in style. This is a fragrance for those who wants more body in their ambers and I think those who like fragrances as Rania J. Ambre Loup and Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Ambre Doré (with patchouli in Ambre Obscur instead of oud as in Ambre Loup and Ambre Doré), also will appreciate Ambre Obscur.

Ambre Obscur is perfect for autumn, winter and early, chilly spring. It's also a good eveningfragrance and it's very comforting to wear for example by the fireplace a dark, snowy winterevening, Ambre Obscur is unisex even if leaning slight to the feminine side IMO. Despite that I couldn't resist to continue using a Tintin character, in this case Captain Haddock, to illustrate Ambre Obscur. I think he fits the bill as the fragrance has some dark, boozy elements..

Taken as a whole: Ambre Obscur is a very well blended, genuine, a bit wild and untamed, dark amber. Dark as its namn implies but it could, and not the new Annick Goutal amber, also be named Ambre Sauvage.

Etat Libre D'Orange - Rien

The name of Etat Libre D'Oranges Rien is an understatement to said at least. But that is on the other hand not surprising as it comes to this controventional perfumhouse, at least when it comes to the it's earlier releases. Rien is on of those earlier creations and it is executed by the famous Givaudan perfumer Antoine Lie. About the story behind and the perfumers inspiration of retro perfumes blended in a contemporary style and taken all the restrictions of rawmaterial in consideration that has ruined many of the great classics when reformulated, read the initiated review of Rien at Bois de Jasmin. Rien is one of these "complicated" cult fragrances, analyzed in almost it's every part in different parfumeblogs and forum and here is my version of it: The formula of Rien reviewed is the original, it's said to has been reworked to a softer version in 2014.

The perfume Rien is anything but "rien", instead it is very "très" as very much is going on in this blend. It starts by a very strong and almost overly harsh construction site note that I genreally like. But in Rien it's on the verge of being too much of that particular wet, putty, gritty and slight sweaty note. This note is also present but in a subtler and more pleasant way in Etros Messe de Minuit. There also a note of a tick, almost smokey and dry leather, as in a rough and heavy leather coat. As Rien is a very strong and potent blend one have to be very careful upon application. When sampling and wore a full sprits from the sample on the right arm and a half sprits on the left, I felt a difference in the scent. It smelled much better on the left, lower dose, hand, not as sharp and compact as on the right. But in the stronger concentration there on the other hand are some interesting animalic notes glimpse. As the first, strong blast tunes down, the fragrance turns into a pale pink almost withering rose backed up by a gentle cumminnote, musk and cold green whiffs that resembles geranium. This stage is slight powdery. The blend for a while gets even more dry to my nose and in this stage there is traces that reminds me of Aromatics Elixir by Clinique. But AE is a louder interpretation of the rose, geranium, moss and also distinguish the individual notes more apparently than in Rien, which notes seems to be more mixed together. In the basenotes there are also aimalic notes that is not as distinct in AE. There is an almost animalic furry note among the basenotes together with a distinct musknote and the powdery pale rose that remains subtle. In the middle and basenotes there are many similarities with the beautiful rose-musk combo in Musc Nomade by Annick Goutal and sometimes I'm almost thinking I'm wearing the latter even if MN is more refined and elegant in it's appearance. In the latest stage of the basenotes the rough leather from the earlier stages of Rien returns, but now it seems to be better in balance with the sourrunding notes than in the beginning.

Expect from the almost off-putting opening and topnotes of Rien, the perfume evokes just the right feeling of retroperfumes foremost in the leathery chypre style as Robert Piguet Bandit, Estee Lauder Azureé and Parfumes Grès Cabochard. But also as mentioned above, of a modern musky classic as Musc Nomade.

Rien is an interesting frag where a lot is going on during it's dry down and there is no risk of losing interest. Even the picky Mr Parfumista gives compliments when I wear Rien, which is strange as he often complians about strong aldehydic scents beeing too "old man/womanlike"on me. But Rien is dry, with almost no sweetness in it and Mr Parfumista is appreciating dry-wood perfumes for himself.  Rien is a must try for retro perfumelovers. I can't say it's officefriendly, not in it's initial stage anyway. This "offending" stage on the other hand dries down during the journy to work and when entering the office, the more pleasant middlenotes have appeared.

Téo Cabanel - Oha

Oha from the venerable house of Téo Cabanel is an old school styled chypre. Oha is created by the house nose or Téo Cabanel, Jean-Francois Latty, a skilful perfumer when it comes to fragrances in the the high quality classic style of Téo Cabanel. I have tested a recent sample and an older one with juice from a bottle of the old design.

Oha starts grandly with a slight powdry and bitter bergamot with contrasting accords of different roses, I can image both pink and red roses. When Oha reaches its middlenotes the roses is still dominating but has deepened and has become darker and tarter. Jasmine and iris is supporting in a robust classic flowery accord with some cool spicyness from the cardamom. There is very little sweetness, if none in Oha, even the musky base is woody and dry powdery, the vanilla and tonka are barely detectable but I suspect these notes prevent Oha from being too austere. Even if lacking oakmoss which seems to have be replaced with musk and woods, Oha is old school chypre-ish in style, something that fails most modern fragrances in this genre.  Ohas lack of sweetness and robust chypre character makes it to an unusual fragrance.

Comparing the two samples of Oha, despite just  the older one is more classic, deeper, boozier and less musky powdery with slightly better longevity. The current sample is more musky powdery, a bit sweeter in the roses and reminds me especially in the opening of Narcisco Rodriguez for Her Edt. Oha is said to be an evening scent but I think it's also appropriate for formal daytime wear as it is close to skin. Longevity is good, ca 12h.

Those who like fragrances in the style of Sisley Soir de Lune, Estee Lauder Knowing, the original Agent Provocateur, Niki de Saint Phalle, but also a bit more spicy blends as Chanel Coco, will probably also appreciate Oha.

Welcome Mr President!

Tomorrow, the most important visit in the history of Stockholm (so far) will happen: The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama will visit our capital for one days. Stockholm is under surveillance and there will be a gigant traffic jam as early as hours before Air Force One is approaching Arlanda Airport. The President will visit an institution a few hundred  meters from my office and today we have debating  whether or not we have a chance to see a glimpse of him if going there. Unfortunately it's just to realise it's better watching the webcast but it's so irritaing having the most powerful man in the world as near as tomorrow and not beeing able to see him :-(

To celebrate this great event tomorrow there will of course be an american SOTD, something from Estee Lauder, Donna Karan or why not my favorite american Amoureuse from Parfums DelRae.

Robert Piguet -Alameda

Alameda by Aurlien Guichard is a strange and intriguing fragrance from one of my favorite houses Robert Piguet. Alameda is classified as a floral chypre but it also has traces of animalic, gourmand and aldehydic accords.

Alameda starts in a classic animalic-floral-chypre way but in a contemporary interpretation of the style of for example Estee Lauder Knowing and Montana Parfum d'Peau. The animalic note is relatively clean, it's somehow like the smell of a new fur. But soon the chypre impression is dimmed with an almost gourmand, dry, light spicy, cookie accord. As the fragrance moves further a light powdery-clean-earthy-rosy almost light aldehydicstyled accord appears and this accord intesifies and different twists appears during the dry down. The earthiness of the orris is without the carrots, it's like this note has been removed.  In the basenotes, Alameda ends up in a beautiful animalic chyprebase similar to how I image Montana Parfum d'Peau or La Perla (classic) would  have smelled if these fragrances were created today.

Alameda is a fragrance which performs with different twists during different wearings. It's a complicated fragrance which take a wearing or two to really appreciate. Just as I want from my perfumes, Alameda is intriguing, the wearer doesn't know what will happen next in the dry down, this perfum is not about just smelling good, it's also about a challenge. To apply Alameda sparingly is a must, the fragrance is concentrated and could be overwhelming if applying too much, my preferred dose is three squirts. Alameda is classified as unisex, to me it's definitly feminine but could, as complex as it is, probably develope in a quite different way, on a man. Can't convince Mr Parfumista to try as he thinks it's a real Femme fatale fragrance.

Alameda is a rich fragrance with great sillage and longevity for 24h+. It's not the fragrances for the scentfobic office but in a fragrancefriendly surrounding, a light dose could be nice preferably during the dark and cold season. For eveing and festive occasions, Alameda is just amazing.

M.Micallef - Ylang in Gold

Ylang in Gold is a truly delicious, luxurary, creamy, fruity, floral from french nichehouse M.Micallef situated in Grasse. Ylang in Gold is created by the "housenose" Jean-Claude Astier and as all Micallefs presentated in a artful bottle this one with shimmering gold, created by one of the two founders of the house, Martine Micallef. The juice itself is avaible in two versions: One goldshimmering and one plain transparent version.

Ylang in Gold starts amazing with an accord that smelle like a golden nectar. Creamy fruity notes, sprinkled with uplifting citrus and an almost liqour like note paired with coconut and slight green notes offsetting the sweetness. The flowers in Ylang in Gold is smooth, rounded and sweet yellow  in appearance (even if not yellow in reality), just as the protagonist of the fragrance, the warm, sweet and sunny ylang-ylang. The base is musky in a wellbalanced way with a damp mossy note offsetting the warm and sweet coconut, vanilla and sandalwood in the base. The whole composition is linear in style, extreamly pleasing and comfortable. Despite Ylang in Gold is consisting of powerful notes, the fragrance is surprisingly transaprent and subtle, sometimes almost not detectable for the wearer even if other can smell it. Ylang in Gold reminds me of a classic powerful floral-fruity-oriental from the early 90s, Chopard Casmir but in a current more transparent, smooth and less sweet interpretation. Casmir is louder, sweeter, darker and heavier with its vanilla-resin base   but there is a chord that smells very similar that goes through both of these fragrances.

Even if a symphony of pleasing sweetness, Ylang in Gold manages to lend over to the not too sweet territory. Ylang in Gold is very well crafted, highquality ingredients is used and it evokes true comfort and perfection, it is almost to perfect, there is no surprising twist hidden in the compostion. But that could be just ok for days when the wearer just need an elegant and caring fragrance, not a challenging one (as my favourite Micallef so far Le Parfum Couture Denis Durand for M.Micallef) that  requires constant attention. The image of the sunny south that the fragrance evokes, make it suitable for wearing in the summer and it has sufficient dept and longevity to last also during a hot summerday.

Ylang in Gold is a shining, yellow fragrance, casual chic, mediating a happy and sunny Cote d'Azur impression. Its texture reminds me of the cocosnutty and creamy character of the dessert gourmand Unkown Pleasures from Kerosene. I also think that those who like Estee Lauder Bronze Godess/Azuree Soleil will appreciate Ylang in Gold. And of course, fans of the original Hanae Mori, with the same name, as that 90s fruity-floral has similarities with Chopard Casmir from the same era.

Kerosense - Unknown Pleasures

Unknown Pleasures is one of the latest fragrance from the indieperfumer John Pegg, creating frags for his own brand Kerosene. Before John started to create pefumes, he worked in the Detroit automobileindustry which have inspired to the unique, by John himself, handlacquered bottles.

Unknown Pleasures starts with an accord very close to a waffle cone filled with lemon sorbet paired with vanilla icecream. Just in the beginning a citrus, slight woody classical cologne note appears creating an almost necessary contrast to the sweetness, probably this is the Earl Grey tea note mentioned in the notelist. After a while the teanote steps back and is not recognizable as a separate note but it's present as a part of the blend. When drying down to the base, the lemonsorbet-vanilla ice creme-waffle cone impression persist and the fragrance is becoming just slightly powdery. In the whole drydown but particulary in the basenotes, I can smell a sort of almost refreshing, green coconutty note which seems to be present to a greater or lesser extent in most Kerosene fragrances, probably a part of the "Kerosenade" base. This particular green coconutty accord is also present in another favourite of mine: Etat Libre d'Orange Tom of Finland which Unknown Pleasures reminds me a bit of in the basenotes.

Unknown Pleasures is not the elegant, complicated and serious fragrance. Instead it is friendly, funny, sunny, warm and happy just like the pleasant feeling of eating icecream a warm and sunny summerday during the holiday. The fragrance is a great gourmand, truly delicious and it's the perfect replacement for a dessert and could therefore act as a substitute for a diet product :-). Unknown Pleaures, just as its name indicates, brings pure joy and comfort. The sillage is medium and longevity for more than a day. IMHO Unknown Pleasures is the second best fragrance of the Kerosene-line so far, and the best for me. The number one Kerosene over all is still (not for wearing myself but its suits great for Mr Parfumista) the multifaceted, boozy, dark and rough Copper Skies.

I think those who like vanillic gourmands in general and fragrances in the style of Estee Lauder Bronze Godess/Azureé Soleil would also like Unknown Pleasures.

Vero Profumo - Mito

Two of my favoriteperfumers lives in Zürich, Andy Tauer and Vero Kern. Maybe it's the fresh air from the alps that have formed their excellent sense of smell which makes them creating beautiful and innovative perfumes. Anyway, this month Vero Kern will launch another gem in her artful parfumeline Vero Profumo - Mito.

Mito is an olfactory interpretation of Veros impressions from the park of Villa d'Este in Tivoli, the flowers, the water in the basains, the moistiness in the shadow, the fresh grass, the sunshine, the architecture and the planning of the park. To me Mito really reflects these impressions of strolling around in a classical park wearing a casul-chic summeroutfit.

Mito starts with a mellow, very warm yellow lemonnote which to me is close to the real fruit. It's lika an explosion of sunshine when the topnotes developes. After a while the flowers skilfully blended with the green sharpness of galbanum shows up. The flowers, especielly the classical galbanum-hyachint duo somehow curbes the sharpness of the galbanum and creates an almost creamy, moisty but in the same time warm texture. Mitos appearence is close to the typical 70s citrus-flowery chypres as Chanel Cristalle Edt and Eau de Rochas, but warmer and more mellow in charachter. The magnolia is also mellow and warm, it's not the somehow stripped down almost cold version as is present in Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte. The jasmine is clean and proper, not an animalic, dirty one. The moisty, dark green moss is present as the perfect setting and the cypress adding some dry woodiness to the blend. A fragrance that comes to my mind during the flowery stages of Mito is Estee Lauders Private Collection Jasmine White Moss which is the same type of  contemporary, green and mellow, whiteflowery chypre. PCJWM to me is a tad sweeter and a bit more flowery in style. Another modern interpretation in this genre is Tiare by Ormonde Jayne.

Mito is an easy to wear fragrance considering it's an Vero Kern perfume. It is not quite as original as Rubj, Onda and Kiki but it's a very wearable fragrance, suitable year around, especially for the colder month, to remember the sunny and warm summer days. As the sillage  is very close there is a risk that the heat of a summerday will be to though to Mito, as with most fragrances heavy on citrus. This minor weakness  is the reason to that Mito doesn't receive the highest rating, but almost:

Histoires de Parfums - Tubereuse 3 Animale update May 2012

Tubereuse 3 Animale is the third installment in the Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse triology, created by the HdP house founder the  ISIPCA-graduated Gérald Ghislain and Magali Senequier ( I think). The Tubereuse triology is a suite of different interpretations of tubereuse or more precise, perfumes with tubey as the common denominator but not necessarily tubereuse as the dominant note of the composition.

When I reviewed (in swedish) T 3 Animale almost two years ago I didn't like it at all. I thought it was an overdose of immortelle and too much tobacco and that the whole blend was unbalanced. But today, I
completely change my opinion, nowadays I just love this immortelle, hay, tobacco, slight honeyed tubereuse creation. Starts with a blond tobacconote, followed by a moderate dose of immortelle, not as heavy as in Annick Goutal Sables. As the notes mingles the tuberose quietly appears in to the blend. It's a tubey at the dark side of the spectrum, a tubey with the honeyed smell of the nectar, an interpretation that I have earlier experienced in Annick Goutals soliflore Tubéreuse (review in swedish) and in Mona di Orios Tubéreuse (also in swedish). The special tobacco-tubereuse mix I have earlier experienced in Liz Zorn (Sohivole) Tobacco & Tulle. As T 3 Animale reaches the basenotes there is something familiar with the blend. Mr Parfumista nails it when he states it has a similar vibe as Estee Lauders Spellbound but adapted to the 2010:s (even if created 2009 to be precise) as softer, more muted and without the bombastic sillage of Spellbound.  And as an old fan of Spellbound it is not surprising that I'm now also an admier of T 3 Animale.

Gianluca Bulega - Amami per Sempere

To me Amami per Sempere from italian fashiondesigner Gianluca Bulega is just a slight smoother and timid version of Krizias discontinued Teatro alla Scala but la Scala is more distinct in it's apperance.

Amami per Sempere starts with sparkling citrusy notes, followed by a heart of a floral oriental carachter. The basenotes are warm, a nice vanilla accompanied by sandalwood and darker traces of patchouli. Thera are also a part of the base that reminds me of  Estee Lauders Youth Dew. ApS is a warm and creamy scent that suits many occasions. The longevity is outstanding, I can smell the basenotes on my wrist 24 h after application and at this stage there are some liqueury notes comming through.

ApS is a nice scent but on the other hand it's also totaly forgettable and without it's own carachter. The only thing I remember after wearing this is it's similarities with Teatro alla Scala. This annoys me during the whole wearing of ApS, to the high price it commands it shouldn't be a weak copy of the bold Teatro alla Scala. Due to it's similarities to Teatro alla Scala, Amami per Sempere qualify to it's rating, it smells good. Taken the high price in account (almost EUR 200 on sale) and the annoying fact that it is almost a copy of old alla Scala it probably deserves a lower rating. All this matters weighted against each other ends up in:

Kunde inte motstå att utmanas av PereDePierres lista över favoriter just nu. Listor är ju sååååå pirrigt spännande. Så här kommer en ögonblicksbild av min Current Rotation:

28 La Pausa (Chanel Exclusifs): Denna lätta, transparenta iris, blomma inte morotsaktig irisrot, på likaleds lätt träig, vetiverig bas, är elegant, lugnande och meditativ. Trots sin lätthet sitter den utmärkt på mig under hela dagen. Den perfekta doften ins Büro.

Youth Dew (Estee Lauder): Tack och lov att jag kapat åt mig en flaska igen. Efter att herr Parfumista uttalat att den luktar tant på mig sålde jag min tidigare på Tradera för att något halvår senare over by Octavian läsa att det då var hög tid att kapa åt sig en flarra YD då diverse IFRA restriktioner kommer att förstöra den kapitalt framöver. Så nu har jag en YD igen, pust! Och plötsligt anser herr Parfumista att den doftar bra...

Nuit de Cellophane (Serge Lutens): Testade några SL och NdC hann inte få plats för hudtest den första omgången utan bara på sticka. Efter något dygn viftade herr Parfumista med stickan med kommentaren "det här är nog något för dig". Testning följde och (som så ofta ska erkännas) så hade han rätt: NdC ist aber sehr Fantastisch! Vit fruktig blomma på skitig bas med prassliga träfibrer. FBW!

Cuir Fetiche (MPG): Som en feminin variant av herr Parfumistas Knize Ten, som jag är förbjuden att låna "jag måste få ha de dofter som är jag i fred". CdF är något av en lufitigare Knize med blommor och en lite mer tydlig lädernot adderad. Wunderbar!

L'Ombre Fauve (Parfumerie Générale): Ganska ofta blir jag besviken på ambradofter, de är helt enkelt för rena, linjära och tråkiga. Så inte L'Ombre Fauve som är en mörk ambra med lite patchoulli och med odjuret lurande i skuggorna med en pälsigt, animalisk not.

Cendres de The (Phaedon): Tydlig och klar kardemumma, the och pepprigt cederträ som rent schablonmässigt passar bäst den varma årstiden men faktiskt även nu under den halvvarma.

En kort analys av det hela: Jag tycker mig se att det för årstiden härligt milda vädret (rosor och tusenskönor blommar i trädgården) avspeglar sig i ögonblicksfavoriterna. Vissa dagar är lite ruggigare och då blir det tyngre "vinterdofter" men om man ska generaliera så är i stort sett hela parfymgarderoben lämplig att använda just nu. För den parfymtokige är alltså vädret det optimala, så det får gärna fortsätta så här resten av vintern.

På tal om listor så är min bruttolista över årets parfymer 2011 i det närmaste klar, några ska (kanske) sållas ut. Svårt att tänka mig att något mer utgivet 2011 ska hinna tränga sig in. Finns dock en runner up, en exklusiv liten sak som jag tänker prova på julafton. Om den här typen av väder står sig i alla fall.

Parfums DelRae – Emotionnelle

När jag först duttar på Emotionnelle ur provet undrar jag om parfymören, den store Roudnitskas son Michel, vill spela bäraren ett spratt. Jag var i och för sig beredd på att det skulle lukta rutten melon/kemiskt schampoliknande efter att ha läst ett antal reviewer. Och ja, på mig doftar den övermogen, på gränsen till rutten gul melon, däremot känner jag ingen överdos av något kemiskt. Övermogenmelonfasen fortsätter minst hela toppnoternas utveckling. Lite längre in i doften i mellanregistret, känns det som pastellfärgade, halvsega, små runda pastiller. En doft som jag så väl känner igen från något sådant godis men just nu inte kan precisera vilken produkt det rör sig om. Vissa små påskgodisägg kan smaka något liknande den här doften. Det finns också en blommighet med bland annat viol som skymtar fram. När doften börjar närma sig basnoterna blir den melonigt myskig, först känns det lite spretigt på något sätt men sedan rundas melonen och mysken av mot varandra och bildar en riktigt trevlig harmoni. Nu känns också små stråk av på gränsen till rutten melon och en not som jag förknippar med omogen banan. Den noten kan jag också känna i Estee Lauders Private Collection Jasmine White Moss även om den doften har en mer elegant utstrålning än Emotionnelle.  

Emotionnelle kräver sin bärare och den behöver antagligen fler provningar än mitt prov kan leverera för att jag helt ska komma underfund med doften. En originell och glad doft med en melonnot som känns ganska äkta, rund och fullmogen till skillnad mot den typiskt kemiska aqua-melonen som finns i så många fräscha dofter. Passar dagtid främst vår och sommar men kan även pigga upp den mörkare årstiden.

Parfums DelRae - Début EDP

Det exklusiva amerikanska parfymmärket Parfums DelRaes Début är en grönt blommig doft skapad av Michel Roudnitska son till, ja just det, den STORE Edmond Roudnitska.

Début är en riktig sen-vårdoft och den ger mig associationer till nyss utslagna ljusgröna blad en solig och varm vårdag, en sådan där dag när man får ett utbrott av pollenallergi. Début innehåller bland annat liljekonvalj. Kombinationen en Roudnitska + liljekonvalj väcker förstås förhoppningar om en återupprättad Diorissimo, någonting mer likt originalet än vad som säljs som Diorissimo idag. Men den förhoppningen kommer på skam. Visserligen finns tidigt i Début en konvaljnot som är väldigt lik Diorissimo i versionen innan nuvarande (rosa kartong) och kanske även nuvarande (vit kartong), har inte luktat tillräckligt på den senaste. Men sedan försvinner den in i en mix av soligt ljusgröna med dragning åt ljugula, vårvarma noter. Lindblomma är en tongivande not och jag tycker också att det finns något som påminner om fläderblommor och lime i doften. Det finns också ett ganska stort inslag av varm citrus i Début. På mig blir doften väldigt badskumslik och en lätt kemisk nyans får tyvärr ett visst genomslag. Herr Parfumistas kommentar om Début: "Luktar lite nytorkade lakan, inget speciellt". Début är, när den lämnat toppnoterna rätt linjär.Hållbarheten under dagen är, som när det gäller flera av DelRaes dofter god även om den inte är i klass med Amoureuses och Bois de Paradises exterma hållbarhet. Début tycker jag, precis som flera DelRae-dofter, är stort amerikansk i stilen och det är inte så konstigt med tanke på att det är dofternas hemmamarknad. Och jag brukar gilla amerikanska parfymer, de är inte så ängsligt tillbakahållna som många av de europeiska utan strålar och vågar ta plats i all sin storhet.

Den doft som ger liknande vibbar som Début är Estee Lauders Private Collection Jasmine White Moss. Båda är blommigt gröna och har den runda citrusaktiga noten. Sedan är PCJWM mer stramt elegant och har en chypebas, Début är mer casual och ungdomlig. Användbar i många sammanhang, året om tycker jag, även om den ger sen-vår/tidig sommar-associationer. Sådana kan man behöva året om.

Vero Profumo - Onda

Ursprungligen publicerat på min tidigare blogg "Parfumistans blogg" på Damerns
Världs hemsida i juni 2009. Därav referensen till Rubj som jag då recencerat innan och alltså nu kommer i fel ordning. Återkommer till Rubj lite längre fram.

Jag har också ett litet prov på den schweiziske parfymkonstnärinnan Vero Kerns gröna härlighet Onda. Även om jag gillar Rubj (se föregående recension) snäppet bättre så är Onda av minst lika god kvalitet och faktiskt mer innovativ än Rubj. Onda innehåller bland annat vetiver, ingefära och koriander.

I Onda händer något hela tiden: Den öppnar grönt, som en uppsparkad fuktig, grästova om våren. Sedan följer gräsiga, lädriga och träiga noter innan den övergår i en grön pudrighet. Ur pudrigheten tonar en tydlig doft av geranium fram men den blir aldrig skarp eller påträngande. Onda är kontrasternas doft, råheten som skiftar med pudrigheten. Den har en påtaglig retrokänsla men faller inte in i ”tantspåret”. Eftersom Onda är en så levande doft ser jag hela tiden fram emot nästa händelse i utvecklingen när jag bär den. Näsan dras hela tiden till handleden så det här är en doft jag får använda lediga dagar.

Onda är en doft för dagtid och den passar särskilt på våren. Som den komplexa doft den är har den ändå något för varje årstid. Den tillhör samma gröna nisch som Estée Lauders Aliage och Aramis Devin. Den mjuka geraniumtonen känner jag igen från Mâitre Parfumeur et Gantiers Route de Vetiver.

Precis som med Rubj kommer det att bli jobbigt när Onda-provet är slut så det är bara att ransonera!

Kommenter vintern 2011: Som framgår av föregående inlägg får jag ungefär samma intryck av Onda Extrait som då. Våren 2009 fanns den bara i parfymkoncentrationen.

Topplista - Vinterdofter

Den stora internationella parfymbloggarmaffian har nu publicerat sina listor över vinterdofter. Det inspirerar förstås till ett inlägg. Det enda problemet är att jag i år har fnattat runt bland de flesta doftkategorier, den där riktiga vinterdoftskänslan försvann redan runt jul. Dessutom provar jag mest prover, alltså flyktiga bekantskaper. Så den här lilla listan är snarare en bild av vad jag gillar just nu, fram-och-tillbaka-vintern 2011, både när det gäller väder och parfym.

Spellbound (Estee Lauder): Gammal trotjänare i mitt stall. Har haft den sedan den kom ut under tidigt nittiotal och håvat in en hel del beröm. Stor amerikan i den kryddigt florala orientala skolan. Kardemumma och annan kryddighet över bland annat ros och gardenia. Några sprits håller ett dygn. Love it!
Le Mimosa (Annick Goutal): Trots mindre bra hållbarhet på huden under dagen, är LM en fin och mycket kvinnlig komposition vars gyllene värme ger hopp om vår och sommar. Persika och mimosa i fin harmoni, se review häromdagen.
Epic Man (Amouage): Elegant oriental med torr kryddighet och en mycket lätt oudnot över rökelse och olika träslag. Fullt klart en unisexdoft i min lilla värld.
Chanel No 5 Parfum (Chanel): Sprudlande aldehyder i denna klassiska doft som ger mig bilder av  marmor och kristallklart vatten.
Beige (Chanel): Mycket kvinnlig och elegant blommig med en väl balanserad syrenton, något som inte är helt vanligt. Ljus och upplyftande ger den hopp om våren. Stort tack till en viss parfymvän för möjligheten till decant av denna pärla.

En trend jag kan se är att jag vill ha rätt distinkta dofter med en intressant utveckling och som sitter hela dagen (förlåt AG). De får också gärna vara stora och märkas, inte små ängsliga skapelser som är rädda att sticka ut från den ordinarie doftmattan.

Grossmith - Phul-Nana

Phul-Nana från 1891 är klassificerad som något så pass originellt som en oriental-fourgé. Fourgé-familjen som står för grön örtiga ormbunksliknande komponenter, innefattar till övervägande del maskulina dofter. Phul-Nana som betyder "underbar blomma" ska efterlikna en bukett av indiska blommor.

"Luktar i alla fall inte tant, mycket bättre än igår" (Shem-el-Nessim) var Herr Parfumistas spontana reaktion efter att jag spritsat på mig doften. Mitt första intryck är en nedtonad Spellbound (Estee Lauder) med mycket mer tämjda noter och lättare i strukturen. I mellanregistret blir Phul-Nana allt örtigare och har en grön kylighet ungefär som en skuggad, fuktig skogsglänta med mossa och ormbunkar en solig sommardag. Doften ger mig samma känsla som Carons Nocturnes även om de annars inte liknar varandra särskilt mycket. Det gröna ormbunksliknande känns i Phul-Nana väldigt rent och naturtroget även om ormbunke inte destilleras. Det är aldehyden coumarin som ger ormbunksnoten i dofter om jag inte minns fel.

Phul-Nana är inte vad jag väntar sig av en bukett indiska blommor. Den är lugn och ganska nedtonad på mig men den ligger där som en diskret örtig, grön, moss- och ormbunksmatta hela tiden. Jag ska förstås inte glömma blommorna, men på mig är det främst det örtigt, ormbunkiga som framträder. Blommorna flyter på ett diskret sätt in i det gröna och kyliga och värmer på så sätt upp doften. På samma sätt som varm luft krockar med det kyliga i den ovan beskrivna skogsgläntan den varma sommardagen. Om jag visualiserar en färg så är Phul-Nana mellan grön med stråk av transparent lila.

Phul-Nana känns till skillnaden från Shem-el-Nessim mer originell och inte så daterad. Jag gillar Phul-Nana och den passar min hudkemi så mycket bättre. Tyvärr bleknar doften och just inget mer händer när den når basnoterna, förutom att jag känner några stråk från Cartiers Panthere. Det är något som påminner om den plåsterliknande noten sammanvävd med en kall blommighet som finns i Panthere. Pudrig tonkaböna anas också.Phul-Nana slutar liksom i ett "jaha", med sin början hade jag väntat mig en mer distinkt final. Ett sammanvägt betyg på alla faktorer: Kvalitet, bärbarhet, originalitet, hur den passar mig och slutligen hur mycket jag helt subjektivt gillar doften:

Niki de Saint Phalle

Ett litet parfymmirakel inträffade på nyårsafton! På morgonen tänkte jag att jag skulle ta och testa en doft som jag dissat och bara inte förstått mig på i åratal, jag skulle ju ändå byta till en annan doft inför kvällens nyårsfirande. Så jag började den mödosamma uppackningen av min gamla flaska Niki de Saint Phalle Edt. Den är invirad i flera plastpåsar då doften är extremt stark och den inte känns helt säker i skruvkorken. Den har även en sprayanordning som man kan skruva på om man vill  (fick vara med på bilden) men den fungerar inte längre. Och det nog bra, för jag misstänker att den är boven i dramat. Eller också är har jag mognat olifaktoriskt alternativt luktsinnet trubbats av.

Tidigare när jag sprayat NdSP har jag tyckt att den är på gränsen till vidrig, skarp, enorm, kantig och för bitter. Jag har aldrig förstått alla doftens hängivna fans och tänkt att det är väl en typisk stor amerikansk smak, men jag gillar ju och andra sidan Estee Lauder som är en fin representant för just den stilen. På nyårsafton ville jag göra ett nytt försök att förstå alla de hängivna och plötsligt kilckade det. Jag "dabbade" på doften och plötsligt blev den något helt annat: Grön chypre med lätt fruktighet i toppen, en lagom bitterhet och med stänk av patchoulli samt cedärträ som faktiskt finns vid sidan av blommorna i mellanregistret. I basen märks lätt läder, rätt mycket mysk och mossa. Den dominerande blomman (på mig) är tagetes som också är doftens lite udda komponent. Annars finns bland annat iris, jasmin och nejlika, den senare är lagom framträdande på mig, kan ibland bli för starkt med nejlika för min del. Doften är på något sätt hög, mycket torr och frisk som en kylig och solig vårdag och den ger ett friskt intryck trots att den är en voluminös chypre med många starka komponenter. Herr Pafumistas spontana reaktion var "det luktar lakan som torkat ute i solen".

NdSP är i samma genre som Sisleys Eau de Soir men där EdS är en elegant och välpolerad dam är NdSP "bohemian chic". Och det är inte så konstigt, NdSP är skapad tidigt åttiotal för den 2002 avlidna amerikanska konstnärinnan (skulptrisen) och avantgardepersonligheten Niki de Saint Phalle. Med sitt franska påbrå var hon även verksam en hel del i Europa och det finns skulpturparker i Schweiz (tror jag) och USA med hennes jättelika, färgglada skulpturer. Dessa pryder även NdSP:s blå parfymflaskor.

Jag blev så förtjust i NdSP att det blev ingen ny doft till nyårsaftonskvällen utan NdSP fick följa mig in i det nya året. 2010 avslutades alltså med en liten parfymsolskenshistoria som också understryker det positiva i parfymnyårslöftet att gräva där jag står. Och årets första dag tillbringade jag också i min nyfunna favorit.
