Ramón Monegal - Lovely Day

To me the somehow dry frutiy-floral of Ramón Monegal  Lovely Day starts like a gentler and less distinctive version of Hermès Un Jardin apres la Mousson. I perceive a melon - peppery ackord that is not as tough and rough as in UJalM. As there is no melon mentioned among the notes I suspect that the black currant gives this effect. There is also no pepper among the ingredients but cedar often gives a peppery effect. Lovely Day developes the light, I image it as white pepper, peppery note continues and the melon-like note seems to go more like black curranrt. As this occurs a flowery element also becomes more evident. The flowers i somehow pink-bubbelgummy-powdery, just as an unchewed pink piece of bubblegum. The sweetness is sort of subdued, it is not sickly sweet and Lovely Day gives me the impression of a grown up almost frutiy floral. After a while in the developement of the middlenotes a coca powdery suede like iris note with light hints of the swedish paperglue "Björnklister" appears.This accord is similar to the irisinterpretation in Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse and traces of the iris from Impossible Iris is also recognisable.  The whole blend is resting on a woody base that is well intergrated in hte blend but becomes increasingly evident as the basenotes develops. Despite just cedarwood is mentioned among the ingredients I also  percieve a woody note similar to a light oud.  The woody base gives a fine contrast and substance to Lovely Day.

Lovely Day is, as the name indicates, a happy fragrance that wears well during a warm summerday, both for office and as with most of the Ramón Monegal fragrances, for elegant casual wear. Despite Lovely Day seems a bit indefinite with its twists of  such different fragrances as Un Jardin apres la Mousson and Tubereuse 1 it's a fragrance that is easy to wear in different situations. The type of fragrance to choose for the days when I haven't got any idea of what to wear.

Kerosene – Copper Skies

Some amber marinated in tobacco oil, with coconutty leathery, almost medical notes surrounded by a wiff of menthol. The opening of Michigan self learned perfumer John Peggs Copper Skies is brutal and almost exaggerated, the impression is as the fragrance is blended in an old oil drum in the perfumers garage. This perfectly fits the image of John Pegg, the former automobile worker, now devoted to perfume creation for his own line of Kerosene. The leather – coconut note in Copper Skies reminds me of an accord in ELDO Rien and/or Tom of Finland, as I remember this is present in both these fragrances, with a rougher edge in Rien and smoother in Tom of Finland. Mr Parfumista also smells a dark lavendelnote maybe a concentrated lavendeloil smells like this. 

As Copper Skies calms down in the middlenotes, the amber becomes more apparent, and the blend becomes smoother and appears as a contemporary (not classic) amber surrounded by smooth and moderatly sweet honey accentuated with spices and cloves. There is no for the amber genre typical vanillanote, for example in By Kilian Amber Oud, something that differs Copper Skies from a lot off classical ambers. There is neither the obvious herbal ackord, typical for the more masculine ambers in the style of MPG  Ambre Precieux  and HdP Ambre 114. During the dry down Mr Parfumista smells traces of the note of silver polish present in Annick Goutal Vetiver and also some of the darker elements from Sables. As Copper Skies reaches the basenotes something unusual happening, it’s as the fragrance retakes, the amber/tobacco/clove accord becomes more intense and also whiffs of the menthol note appears again.

Copper Skies is a rough and tough fragrance, far from fine “haute couture perfumery”. There is a more or less muted ELDO-vibe during the whole developement of Copper Skies. But as mentioned above, some Goutals are also present and maybe there is a part of the secret of the Copper Skies sucess: Each wearer can recognise some of his/hers favoritescents.  Copper Skies also mediates a somehow homemade impression but in a positive, relieving way. The only thing that annoys me with Copper Skies and which lower its rating, is the feeling that the components doesn't blend together enough. It's like the perfumer has trown in different comfortable fragrances but haven't mixed them properly together and they are existing side by side/as followers of each other. On the other hand this gives the fragrance a own identity and as the same pattern is recognizable also in Kerosenes green creation Creature, this is mabye the characteristic mark of the Kerosenebrand.

Copper Skies is werable the year around, as it lacks the vanilla sweetness it’s also suitable for summer. Of course, as it name indicates, it’s a perfect late autumn scent, when the leaves has fallen from the trees, lying sparkling of yellow, orange and red of the ground, the air is chilly and the orange, blue, grey clouds chases across the sky. The longevity of Copper Skies is amazing 24+ , the blend is strong, heavy application is prohibited J . The development of the fragrance is interesting, the least interesting part is the middlenotes, but this is offset of the cozy feeling that this stage mediates, this is a constant wrist-sniffing stage. I’m sure Copper Skies will be a comfortable fragrance (despite it’s brutal start) to fall back upon days when I don’t know what to wear during the colder months. Copper Skies is truly unisex, even the picky Mr Parfumista sneaks from this and as there is very few new releases that please him nowadays, this is a high mark for Copper Skies. I rarely blindbuying frags, but in this case I'm glad I did it, despite it seems as Mr Parfumista has taken over the bottle :-)

Histoires de Parfums - Tubereuse 3 Animale update May 2012

Tubereuse 3 Animale is the third installment in the Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse triology, created by the HdP house founder the  ISIPCA-graduated Gérald Ghislain and Magali Senequier ( I think). The Tubereuse triology is a suite of different interpretations of tubereuse or more precise, perfumes with tubey as the common denominator but not necessarily tubereuse as the dominant note of the composition.

When I reviewed (in swedish) T 3 Animale almost two years ago I didn't like it at all. I thought it was an overdose of immortelle and too much tobacco and that the whole blend was unbalanced. But today, I
completely change my opinion, nowadays I just love this immortelle, hay, tobacco, slight honeyed tubereuse creation. Starts with a blond tobacconote, followed by a moderate dose of immortelle, not as heavy as in Annick Goutal Sables. As the notes mingles the tuberose quietly appears in to the blend. It's a tubey at the dark side of the spectrum, a tubey with the honeyed smell of the nectar, an interpretation that I have earlier experienced in Annick Goutals soliflore Tubéreuse (review in swedish) and in Mona di Orios Tubéreuse (also in swedish). The special tobacco-tubereuse mix I have earlier experienced in Liz Zorn (Sohivole) Tobacco & Tulle. As T 3 Animale reaches the basenotes there is something familiar with the blend. Mr Parfumista nails it when he states it has a similar vibe as Estee Lauders Spellbound but adapted to the 2010:s (even if created 2009 to be precise) as softer, more muted and without the bombastic sillage of Spellbound.  And as an old fan of Spellbound it is not surprising that I'm now also an admier of T 3 Animale.

Histoires de Parfums - Tubereuse 2 Virginale

Tubereuse 2 Virginale is the second installment in the Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse triology, created by the HdP house founder the  ISIPCA-graduated Gérald Ghislain and Magali Senequier ( I think). The Tubereuse triology is a suite of different interpretations of tubereuse or more precise, perfumes with tubey as the common denominator but not necessarily tubereuse as the dominant note of the composition.

T 2 Virginale is like it's name indicates a  bright, happy and cheerful white flowery scent with fruity accents. Virginale starts with a fresh, not at all sweet, cloying, cherry note. The note, accented with an almost peppery/insence note, is transparent in style. A hint of the smell of nailpolish whirls thoriug the scent after a while, but not at all in a unpleasent way. Soon thereafter there is also an accord that reminds me of a lip balm of my youth, don't remember it's name. It was american, the container was black with a white cap and the grease was in a pale pink nuance. Later in the middlenotes, bright and quite transparent white flowers intensifies the tubey is there but interwowen with the other white flowers in a boquet. In the background something sweet and almost gourmandy lurks, I almost recognize a tuned down version of the strawberry popcornnote of the original Christine Nagel 2005 composition of Miss Dior Cherie Edp. The basenotes of  T Virginale 2 are slight clean musky but in the right proportion, not the detergent clean musk but a nice white musk. There is also some patchouli in hte base, but in a gentler dose than in MDC Edp.

T 2 Virginale is a nice, inoffensive scent, perfect for officewear in spring and summer but also during the other seasons when longing for summer. Good, wellbalanced and very wearable.

Histoires de Parfums - Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse update May 2012

Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse is the first installment in the Histoires de Parfums Tubereuse triology, created by the HdP house founder the  ISIPCA-graduated Gérald Ghislain and Magali Senequier ( I think). The Tubereuse triology is a suite of different interpretations of tubereuse or more precise, perfumes with tubey as the common denominator but not necessarily tubereuse as the dominant note of the composition.

I have tested and reviewed (in swedish) T 1 Capricieuse almost two years ago. At that time I didn't caught its features and rated it as a slight more than good fragrance but it didn't really moved me at that time. Maybe I rushed through the sample too fast, because now I really like this interesting  iris-suede-coca-tubey blend. T 1 Capricieuse starts as a almost pure iris fragrance with the typical metallic, iris rooty note but without almost any nuances of carrot. The opening notes reminds me of Chanel No 19 Poudré and Heeley Iris de Nuit minus the carrot note. Then a note similar to Björnklister "Bear-glue", a white glue for paper that was common in my childhood, tunes in. Nostalgic-pleasant in some way. After a while the gluenote turns into a suede note dusted with coca powder and a muted tubereuse tunes in very discrete. As the blend dries down the flowery, coca, suede blend somehow intensifies in a beautiful, almost gourmand accord. This stage is very pleasant and the stayingpower is superior, it lasts until the next morning. I suspect that I applicated to little when I condemned the stayingpower two years ago. 

As a whole T 1 Capricieuse reminds me of the iris-suede Mythique by Parfums DelRae but the latter is more graceful, transparent and flowing than the more robust T 1  Capricieuse. Mythique is also an iris-suede without the tubeynote that makes T 1  Capricieuse warmer and with an almost mellow vibe.

T 1 Capricieuse is the perfect officeperfume, wearable year around except the hottest summerdays.

Histoires de Parfums - 1876 Mata Hari

I have hard to belive that a famous femme fatale as the first world war suspected spy Mata Hari was smelling like a sweet, almost caramelized, rose on a base of cookies. But what do I know? The HdP fragrance 1876 Mata Hari is tribute to or just inspired of Mata (or both). 1876 Mata Hari is as almost all HdP:s created by the HdP founder, perfumer Gérald Ghislain in colloboration with perfumer Magali Senequie.

The pink sweet, rose is present from start to end in 1876. In the topnotes it has a slight transparent vibe and something that is similar to a green tea-note passing by. Then the blend sweetens in the cookie notes. I recoginze these kind of dry buttery notes from the backgroundnotes of perfumes such as Agent Provocateur aldehydic Maitresse and the jasmine/honeysuckle Burberry London for Woman. To me this note is similar to the smell when opening an enclosed cookie jar. There is also the smell of pink rose as in Parfums MDCI Rose de Siwa but the RdS rose is fresh and dewy compared to the gourmand rose in 1876 Mata Hari.  As a whole the Mata Hari blend also reminds me of Andy Tauers Une Rose Vermeille, maybe 1876 Mata Hari was one of the scents that has influented Andy when he created URV? But 1876 Mata Hari is paler and not as distinctint in character as URV and 1876 also lacks the jam and incense notes of URV. As Mata Hari reaches the basenotes the blend is almost creamy and fleeting, supported by a well balanced sandalwood. An gentle and calm earthy note also apperars  among the basenotes and makes the end of Marta Hari less sweet and more serious. Ironically just as the tragic story of her life.

1876 Mata Hari is a nice variation of the sweet-rose theme and it is as well as URV, Rose de Siwa and so on. Which fragrance to choose is of course up to the personal references when it coming to details. Personally I have hard to choose between URV and 1876 Mata Hari as both speeks to me in different ways despite the same theme: URV joyful and happy and 1876 Mata Hari dramatic and mysterious.

Histoire de Parfums – Blanc Violette

Blanc Violette is one of the fragrances in the Histoire de Parfums underline Soliloquies based on some of the classical notes. Blanc Violette is created by the HdP founder Gerald Ghislain and Magali Senequier

Blanc Violette starts with a powdery, aldehydic, retro accord that highlights the violets in the the lipstick-like way as seen in Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose and Etat Libre D'Orange Putain the Palace. But in Blanc Violette the violetnote is clearer compared to the other two and supported by other flowery notes of iris and ylang-ylang. In the middlenotes a lot of the powderness is toned down and a light, dry, white-peppery note appears, probably an element of the sandalwood in the base. Blanc Violette will continue as a rather shy but dominating violet supported by the other flowers and with a well-established contrast of anise and rice powder over a musky base with some light traces of vanilla. The anisenote never takes over the scent, as in many cases with this distinctive note, it's well interwoven, balances the other notes and gives the fragrance a special character. In style, not particulary in smell, there is a similarity with the chilly elegance of Jolie Madame by Pierre Balmain.

Blanc Violette is a chilly, yet soft scent that's perfect wearing during daytime in winter-spring and spring. It smells just like I imagine that the color light purple would smell. Both Lipstick Rose and Putain the Palace is warmer and more extrovert in style than the cool, understated elegant, yet comfortable Blanc Violette. Longevity of the day is so-so, just fragments remain in the evening.

Winter strikes back

Winter strikes back again and today it's snowing as h--l ! Treating my self in the peachy, chocolate, rose, freesia, spicy, patchouli 1969 Parfum de Revolte from Histoire de Parfums trying to find "inspiration" to start with the yearly tax declaration of income. 1969 is a really nice, not too sweet, dessert like gourmand fragrance.

So then my spring-spring fragrancepost probably have to wait for some more weeks.

Farmacia SS. Annunziata dal 1561 - Ambra Nera

Farmacia SS är ett gammalt anrikt apotek i Florens, grundat 1561. Eftersom apotek förr i tiden också komponerade och sålde dofter så vilar Farmacia SS:s dofter på en gedigen grund.

Ambra Nera är en underbar, varm, omhändertagande mellanbrun (om jag ska visualisera en färg) ambra i kategorin med kådor och patchoulli. Den tillhör alltså inte den örtigare (grönare) mer fourgé-likande gruppen som MPG:s Ambre Précieux eller HdP:s Ambre 114.

 I Ambra Nera finns noter av cypress, eucalyptus, ambra, benzoin, vetiver, vanilj och patchoulli.  Den är högkvalitativ, torr och perfekt pudrig i karaktären, som pudret i en elegant dams juvelbesatta puderdosa. Ambra Nera ger associationer till en elegant dam i exklusiv päls på väg till Afternoon Tea efter en "ansträngande" shoppingrunda. Jag upplever ambratonen som skalad och ren. Samma ambranot men behandlad på ett annat sätt finns i Montales Oud Ambre. I Oud Ambre bäddas ambran in i noter som skapar en mörk och lortig ambra; kryddor, oud, läder och honung. Oud Ambre är farlig, klädd i ett svart läderfodral, och på gränsen till vulgär. En Femme fâtale jämfört med Ambra Neras eleganta lady. Där Ambra Nera är väluppfostrad och perfekt så balanserar vilddjuret Oud Ambre hela tiden på gränsen..

Ambra Nera hade förstås varit en pefekt juldoft också och skulle kunna ha lagts in bland juldoftslistorna. Den är också en trivsam kontorsdoft grå och kalla vinterdagar, en komfortdoft som kan få hela omgivningen att må bra.

Doftbesvikelser 2010

Så här i årets sista dagar dags att summera parfymåret. Det positiva, årets dofter 2010 spar jag till nyårsafton. Först till avdelningen höga förväntningar och platt fall gällande dofter lanserade 2010:

Histoire de Parfums Tubereuse Trilogy: Har i och för sig bara testat 1:an och 3:an men efter det så känns det inte som jag har något behov av att testa 2:an. Förhoppningarna var på topp, tuberose-fantast som jag är och intrycken var mest iris när det gällde 1:an och tungt, sirapig ertenell när det gäller 3:an. Gilded Liliy (Ineke) som jag recenserade häromveckan blev en besvikelse då jag bara inte kan få EnJoy hur tankarna när jag testar den. Inte för att det är något fel varken på GL eller på EnJoy utan för att det här är Inekes andra doft på raken som jag tycker påminner för mycket om en redan existerande, bra mainstream doft.

I övrigt har jag faktiskt inte testat på något (av det lilla som jag testat av de över tusen dofter som numera lanseras under ett år) utgivet 2010 som underträffat mina förväntningar. Det beror förstås  mycket på vilket urval för test jag gör, ju bättre påläst innan, ju större sannolikhet att det inte blir en besvikelse eftersom förväntingsnivån ligger "rätt" från början. Det roligaste är förstås när en doft visar sig infira eller då och då till och med överträffa förväntan. Mer om några sådana i morgon, nyårsafton. .

Histoire de Parfums - Tubereuse 3 Animale

Animale är den andra doften som jag provat på från Histoire de Parfums tuberose-trilogi. Vet inte hur jag ska börja men det känns som om mycket har gått fel i denna doft. Man har tagit i alldeles för mycket som med, mörka, mustiga och grova penseldrag i olja. Inte mycket som påminner om tuberose i Animale därimot en överdos av ertenell, ganska rikligt med tobak och lite gräs och honung känns det som, säkert en not från tobaken. Animale blir bara för mycket! Vill man ha en imortelldoft (erternellsläkting) så rekommenderas Annick Goutals Sables som trots sin ton av lönnsirap i sammanhanget känns verkligt finstämd. Kombinationen med tobak och tuberose har dessutom gjorts tidigare och på ett lyckat sätt av den amerikanska indieparfymören Liz Zorn i Tobacco & Tulle. Där är noterna inte kväljande och det känns att tuberosen lurar i bakgrunden.
Animale inleds enligt pyramiden med citrusnoter som bergamott, kumquat, mandarin och neroli. Den fasen verkar nästan hoppas över på min hud för jag hamnar tämligen direkt i mellanregistret med jasmin, tuberose, gräs och plommon.  Gräset är det som tonar fram på mig av det som nämns i denna fas. I basen hö, immortelle, trä, labandum och tobak. Som framgår ovan är det basen som tar över på mig väldigt snabbt.
Sammantaget blir Animale mörkt sirapsartad på mig och bara för mycket. Den har en unken, instängd karaktär som i det här tappningen inte blir särskilt spännande eller bra. Det finns instängda dofter där jag tycker om instängdheten tex Messe de Minuit även om den är av en helt annan typ. Säkert mixar Animale bra med någon annans hud, annars hade väl doften inte skapats. Men parfymören vill för mycket och allt blir liksom överdrivet och hysteriskt.

Histoire de Parfums - Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse

Nu har jag äntligen provat två av det franska nischhuset Histoire de Parfums på många håll upphaussade tuberose-dofter (de är totalt tre i vad som kallas tuberose-triolgin). Först ska jag säga att den som gillar tuberose kan bli besviken på dofterna, tuberosen är bara en av flera dominanta noter och i Capricieuse känns ialla fall på min hud, varken den typiska tunga vita blomdoften eller den krispigt, tulpanbladsliknande grönhet som är typisk för tuberose. Capricieuse är skapad av Hdp:s parfymör Magali Senequier med inspiration från husets grundare Gérald Ghislain.
Efter allt jag har läst om tuberosetrilogin så var jag i och för sig beredd på att det inte skulle vara så tydligt med  tuberose i dofterna. Men jag hade istället väntat mig en annorlunda tvist i en tuberosekombintaion men det luktar bara som en normalbra, trevlig mainstream lättare floral-oriental enligt mitt tycke. Enligt vad som framgår av beskrivningen så är tuberosen matchad med iris, men det är inte heller den typiska irisnoten (= roten). Möjligen är det själva blombladen. Den mockanot som finns i basen tillsammans med mysk känns tydligt, noten associerar till mocka i ljusgrått. Av saffran som ska finnas bland toppnoterna känner jag ingenting men lätt av kakaopulvret i mellanregistret. Övriga omnämnda noter i Capricieuse är ylang-ylang (mellanregistret), bergamott och mandarin (bland toppnoterna).
Hållbarheten under dagen är sådär. Har märkt med andra Hdp-dofter att de fragmenteras snabbt på mig, kanske inte min hud och Hdp fungerar så bra ihop. Den bästa delen av Capricieuse är utan tvekan när basen fått sätta sig efter några timmar. Då känns doften hel på mig igen. Basen doftar på ett trevligt sätt en kombination av Carlssons klister och blomma.
 Av de två parfymer jag provat på i tuberose-trilogin så känns de lite som ett par hastverk, ger intrycket av att ha haft bråttom att komma först ut med dofterna i den nuvarande tuberose-trenden.
Sammanfattningsvis en ok doft med trevlig bas. Men eftersom recensionerna varit så bra så blir det ett ganska platt fall eftersom förväntningarna varit höga. Den är i min värld inte värd sina 130 EUR visserligen för generösa 120 ml, men det kan den definitivt vara för någon med rätt hudkemi för doften.

Tråkigt att det fina vädert försvann men och andra sidan är regn och rusk = bra parfymväder. Många fler dofter passar när det är kyligare. Förutsatt att det fortsätter i den här stilen så känner jag för de här dofterna för veckan som kommer:
Cristalle EDT (Chanel): Denna eleganta, kanastertorra citrus- chypre passar förstås jättefint i soligt väder men lyser också upp den regnigaste dag.
Aoud Damascus (Montale): Denna lätt metalliska rosa ros mixad med ljust rökelsträ vilande på en lagom dos oud är bara så elegant och bärbar.
Noir Patchouli (Histoire de Parfums): Igår när jag bar den i så pass varmt väder fick den en härligt tvålig not som mixade så fint med patchoulin. Den effekten har jag inte märkt tidigare, undrar om det var vädert.
Tribute (Amouage): Kan tänka mig att högkvalitativa parfymoljan Tribute gör sig bra i halvvarmt och fuktigt väder. När jag provade den i kylan runt jul tonade den bort för snabbt för att vara FBW (parfymnördskod för Full Bottle Worthy).
